Sunyani-Ghana, Nov. 08, GNA – Asphalting work has begun on some sections of the Sunyani Inner City Road Project being executed by the Sinohydro Corporation of China.
During a visit, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) sighted the bitumen works were progressing at the Nkwabeng North access roads that linked Mayfair, as well as the Fiapre-Odumase stretch, and Berlin Top (Asiepreso) portion of the road, which connected Living Grace Church and Mungo Park stretching through Baakoniaba.
Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia cut the sod for the work to begin on the 29-kilometre Sunyani town roads in September 2020.
The project forms part of the rehabilitation and expansion of major roads across the country, being funded under the Sinohydro agreement between Ghana and China.
About eight suburbs and a total of 26 communities in the Sunyani Municipality are benefiting from the project, expected to be completed in 2023.
The suburbs and their surrounding communities included Agyei Ano (Dr. Berko), Mayfair, Baakoniaba, New Town, Berlin Top and Penkwase areas’ roads, as well as Estate inner link roads.
Though works on some portions of the road project including that of the Agyei-Ano and the Estate inner link had halted for some time now due to the rains, major earth and drainage works had already been completed.
Commenting on the progress of work done, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, commended the Chinese contractors for the quality of work, and asked them to speed up as the rains had receded.
Mad. Owusu-Banahene said she was satisfied with the progress of work, and expressed the optimism that the project would be completed as scheduled.
The Regional Minister appealed to residents along the project areas to cooperate with the contractors and advised the contractors to also ensure the watering of the roads to minimize dust pollution.
