Theresa Awuni, John Mahama win Okaikwei North

Madam Theresa Lardi Awuni of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the Okaikwei North parliamentary seat.

She polled a total of 28,363 votes to beat her major opponent, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who had 20,627, with Mr Abdul Hamidu Ibrahim Futa, Convention People’s Party (CPP), drawing 470 votes.

John Dramani Mahama, presidential candidate for the NDC won in the Okaikwei North Constituency, polling a total of 29,710 votes to beat Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who had 18,890 votes.

Nana Kwame Bediako, independent candidate, New Force Movement secured 497 votes while Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, also independent candidate, had 130 votes.

Madam Awuni, in her victory speech, thanked her helpers and admirers and party supporters.

“I want to thank the security service for your patience and endurance. I want to thank the Chiefs, Elders, Pastors, Imams and Opinion Leaders of Okaikwei North. Thanks for the trust reposed in me once again. I promise to deliver.” Madam Awuni said.

She urged her supporters to stay calm and celebrate in moderation.
