The colorful celebration, held over the weekend at Anloga, saw the presence of queen mothers across the 36 states of Anlo.
The festivities officially commenced on Saturday, February 8th with a soccer competition for some football teams, and Thursday, February 13th, with a seminar focused on leadership, empowerment, and development, followed by a health walk and screening exercise on Friday, February 14th. 2025
The event was climaxed by a grand durbar at the Anloga District Assembly yard, which was attended by over 40 queenmothers alongside several chiefs.
In her inaugural address, Mama Wotobe II, President of the Anlo Queens Council, expressed profound gratitude to the chiefs of the Anlo Dukor Council, particularly Togbi Sri III, for endorsing and supporting the formation of the council.
She commended the queen mothers for their commitment to unity and the preservation of Anlo’s cultural heritage.
“We come not only to celebrate a decade of leadership and service but also to honour the beauty of our unity and the strength of our heritage. The Anlo State has always been built on the values of solidarity, respect, and collective progress, and today’s gathering is a testament to that enduring legacy,” Mama Wotobe II remarked.
Togbi Zewu IV, Domefiaga of Anlo, who chaired the event, lauded the queenmothers for their unwavering support to the Traditional Council, highlighting their vital roles in mediating chieftaincy issues and serving as role models for young women within the community.
“The significant roles played by our queens over the years are immense. They have been supportive not only ceremonially but also administratively. Their advice during chieftaincy disputes has promoted peace and harmony in Anlo Chieftaincy matters. This council is indeed worth celebrating,” he noted.
Mama Deawofe II, Queenmother of Tegbi and Treasurer of the Association recounted the history of the Council to the Ghana News Agency, stating that the idea was conceived in 2012 and subsequently endorsed by Awoamefia Togbi Sri III and Awadada Agbeshie Awusu II and other chiefs of the Anlo Dukor Council.
She praised the resilience of the queen mothers who persistently worked to unify the council, even when some members were affiliated with other councils outside Anlo.
There was a special dinner and a thanksgiving church service on Sunday at Anloga EP Church chapel.
The celebration not only marked a decade of impactful leadership but also reinforced the commitment of the Anlo Queens to mentor the young women in the State toward a better future
Mama Diawor II, of Anlo-Afiadenyigba, and Council’s organiser shared with GNA how they intend to mentor young girls.
“We shall soon initiate new programmes to engage the youth particularly young women on how to eradicate unemployment and social vices within the Anlo enclave, we must mentor them,” Mama said
The durbar was attended by a host of prominent chiefs, including Togbi Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, Paramount Chief of Amugo Wego, Togbi Agbelorm Agbotokor II of Salo; Togbi Adoblanui II of Woe; Togbi Kadzahlo Drabese V Dufia of Anlo-Afiadenyigba; Togbi Subu II of Anloga; and Togbi Lolui II, among other paramount chiefs.
A delegation of Queens from Ada-Sege and Agave also graced the occasion to celebrate with their peers.
