She expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the Abattoir which according to her is affecting the efficiency of meat production, stressing that the lack of slaughter slag for slaughtering is also a challenge.
Madam Mbah stated during the Tema Metropolitan Assembly’s commemoration of the 38th National Farmers Day, which is on the theme: “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition” at Kpeledjootsoshishi Tema Manhean.
Speaking on the theme, Madam Mbah explained that agriculture is not only limited to the cultivation of crops and the rearing of animals but also changing the original state of production to a high-quality state to enhance the overall end product, which goes through processing.
She noted that drying fish on a bare floor is unhygienic and does not make them attractive and healthy for human consumption. It is a health risk and demanded immediate stakeholder intervention to address the problem.
She noted that despite all the challenges, the assembly has been able to work out and improve production in the agricultural sector.
She said the Assembly has engaged in processing, packaging, and labeling to add value to the commodities.
Madam Mbah said that within the metropolis, the assembly has made several interventions in promoting agriculture among women in the Tema Manhean.
Some of the interventions, she said included empowering women in the processing of pepper into a puree, building the capacity for farmers to package, and label their product, as well as training 20 women on how to produce orange fresh juice.
Madam Mbah called for some interventions to support farmers, and fishermen to add value to their crops, livestock, and products to make them attractive for both local and export use to increase revenue and their profit.
She urged all farmers to continue to work hard to feed the country and congratulated the awardees for their hard work.
