Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate- elect for Ablekuma West Constituency, has vowed to retain the seat for the Party come December 2024.
The three-time Member of Parliament (MP) for the area was on Saturday, January 27, 2024, re-elected Parliamentary Candidate of the Party in a landslide victory.
She polled 817 votes to beat Mr Robert Kwesi Nicole, her contender, who polled 241 votes.
Her re-election means, she would once again face the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2020 Parliamentary Candidate, Reverend Kweku Addo, in the national polls.
The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation has won the seat three times since it was carved out of the then Ablekuma South Constituency in 2012.
However, in 2020, her votes margin shrunk significantly from over 13,400 in 2016 to a little over 6,500 votes, in 2020.
Speaking in an interview with the media after her re-election, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful insisted that she was unperturbed by that, stressing that, she remained confident of retaining the seat in December.
She said: “We are retaining this seat and we will do whatever it takes to do that. Somebody has been to parliament with three votes, so the important thing is that we are winning and we are retaining this seat and we are winning more votes for our presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to break the eight.
“That, for me is our focus. NDC is not my focus. I’ve beaten them three times, I will beat them again.”
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful called on her opponent to join forces with her to ensure the Party retained the seat come December 2024.
“The contest is over; the delegates have spoken. It is time for us to join forces to do the work of the NPP in this constituency. So, I am welcoming him to join us to forge ahead in unity and retain this seat for the NPP,” she added.
Mr Richard Ahiagba, Director of Communications of the NPP, urged the two aspirants to work together and ensure victory for the Party.
