Kasoa (C/R)-Ghana, March 6, GNA – The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly Monday joined the rest of the country to commemorate the 66th Independence Day Anniversary with a colourful parade.
More than 33 schools, including 12 public basic, 20 private basic, OdupongKpehe Community Day Senior High School and some traders participated in this year’s celebration.
“Our Unity, Our Strength, Our Purpose,” is the overarching theme for the celebration.
The Municipal Education Director, MCE, security personnel, teachers, parents, traditional leaders, opinion leaders and community members made up the personalities that thronged the venue.
The MCE, Mrs Anita Love Oboe Amissah, addressing the gathering, emphasized that unity, responsible citizenship and good governance were important nation building requirements.
Greater things could be achieved with teamwork, and regardless of the magnitude of an obstacle, once there was unity there surely would be success, she said.
Every good citizen’s role, Mrs Amissah said, added to the strength of the nation.
“A good citizen means abiding by the laws, paying taxes, respecting the rights of community members, having compassion and empathy, and being tolerant… to contribute to the growth of the nation,” she said.
“Having individual purposes was important to setting clear goals and finishing lines while that of the country is to govern and provide social assistance to the citizenry, particularly those struggling who may not be privileged as others, and to achieve that, would require the synergy between citizens and government.”
She underscored the Assembly’s continuous efforts to addressing the challenges of some cluster of schools with sanitation issues in the municipality, and appealed for support to achieve its development agenda.
The Assembly presented awards to deserving schools towards the provision of quality education.
