Mr Forson, at the parliamentary candidates’ dialogue organised by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said, “This election is about the personalities involved to turn Tema around.”
The dialogue, which was on the theme “Together We Can Build Ghana, So Get Involved,” was organised in collaboration with Plan B FM and supported by the Cocoa Processing Company Limited.
The candidate who is seeking to retain the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) described himself as “a verb” as he had been impacting lives in Tema Central, even before deciding to contest to represent the people in parliament.
“In body politics, I am a verb because I impact; I have impacted Tema Central well; that’s why I want to take it up,” he said.
Touching on his vision for the area, he said he had seven original pillars, which he had upgraded to nine, explaining that some of them included strengthening his Tema Central Welfare Scheme, which was already running to provide seed money to entrepreneurs.
Youth employment was another issue he had started tackling by partnering with the churches in the constituency and providing some seed money to support the youth, adding that “youth connect” was another pillar that sought to connect this group to business experts, he said.
Mr Forson further said he would provide five libraries, one each in communities five, four, eight, nine, and 11 to support the learning of students in the area, adding that he would redevelop the recreational centres in Tema Central.
On the beautification of the constituency, he stated that “every member of the constituency must plant a tree in their area to make it the most beautiful constituency in Ghana.”
Answering questions on education, he said even though the constituency had a lot of basic and second cycle institutions, the teachers lacked accommodation, while most the schools needed proper security to be put in place, saying he would get the support of corporate organisations to help due to the cost involved.
The Tema Central NPP parliamentary candidate acknowledged that education is key, basic, and a gate opener to everything; therefore, they would encourage other important policies on education.
“Nobody in Tema Central should waste a vote. All votes should go to number one for continuity and upgrade of our education sector,” he said.
Touching on employment, he stressed that as a businessman, he intended to empower entrepreneurs in the constituency, explaining that: “I am not going into politics to make a living, but to enrich democracy and for people to know that businessmen can also go and make a big difference.”
“I am an employer myself and have employed people. We have vision and bold solutions; if you give one person business, the person will also employ others,” he said.
Mr Forson, commenting on his plans for the health of the people, revealed that he has been organising free health screening for the people, adding that he intends to bring in a medical van for such periodic checks.
He said he would also intensify health education in the area, as many people were dying from hypertension and other non-communicable diseases that such sensitisation programmes would tackle.
Mr Forson became the NPP parliamentary candidate after winning the slot in a primary, which saw him polling 420 votes over the 288 the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Yves Nii Noi Hansen-Nortey, received from the 708 delegates.
